Welcome back Mustangs!! Current students who went through the registration process please remember to pick up your final schedule on purple paper in the cafeteria before reporting to your 1st hour. This schedule is your pass into your classes on Monday. If you have NOT been through the registration process, please report to the Auditorium to pay your fees and get your ID card. Your final schedules will be available after you complete registration. Have a GREAT year!!!
  
NEW TO SUNRISE MOUNTAIN? If you wish to enroll your student for the 2011-2012 school year, please call the guidance office at 623.487.5133 to schedule an appointment. Counselors do not work in the summer and are not available for enrollments everday.
  
ATTENTION SENIORS/PARENTS: This is a reminder that the Senior Awards Ceremony is this Tuesday, May 3rd at 7:45am in the auditorium. If you are a senior who has received an award/scholarship, report to the auditorium by 7:20. Dress is business casual - no shorts, flip flops or jeans. Parents, please call and RSVP to Ms. Woodyard in the guidance office at 623.487.5133.
  
Attention Seniors:
Are you going to a career college or trade school next year? A $1000.00 scholarship is available through the Arizona Private School Association. A short one page application that includes a 50 word (or less) paragraph on your career goals and why you are requesting the scholarship is available in the guidance office with a list of eligible schools. The deadline to apply is April 30th.
  
Attention all Seniors and Parents:
Please turn in a copy of your award letters for scholarships (including athletics) to the guidance office as soon as possible. We are preparing for the awards ceremony and want to make sure we include everyone. Also, please turn in all awards you have been offered, even if you are not planning on accepting them. Summer School information for regular classroom and eCampus is now available in the guidance office. Summer School begins on May 31st and runs through July 7th and will be held at Cactus High School.
  
Attention College Bound Seniors:
The Robert C. Byrd Scholarship is a $1500 renewable scholarship for students who are strong academically. Applications are available on-line at http://www.ade.az.gov/constituentservices/byrd/ 
and are due to guidance by March 1st
  
Students who are interested in attending ASU should consider applying for the ASU Kaibab Industries Scholarship if they have a 3.0 cumulative GPA and financial need.  The amount of the scholarship is approximately $2,000 for the academic year.  It is not renewable.
Interested students should submit the following to guidance no later than Tuesday, January 18, 2011:

Because Sunrise can only choose one student, do not apply directly for this scholarship.  The awards committee will choose one student from the applications that are turned in to guidance.  Please let me know if you have questions. 
  
ATTENION ALL STUDENTS-  you will need to pick up your final schedule for Semester 2 in the cafeteria beginning at 6:45 Monday, January 3rd. It will be on gold colored paper and you will need this schedule to get into your classes on Monday morning.
  
Get Ca$h for college at the 15th Annual College Goal Sunday (and Saturday TOO!)
Want to go to college but think you won’t qualify for financial aid?  Don’t let the fear of applying get the best of you!  Come to College Goal Sunday and Saturday TOO! where hundreds of financial aid professionals will be on hand February 12 and 13, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. to help high school seniors, and returning adults complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  The FAFSA is the first critical step in applying for all types of financial aid (grants, loans, etc.) and can be challenging.  Get help with the FAFSA or questions regarding the financial aid process.
Don’t miss out on the free help or the opportunity to register to win a scholarship for college! Information regarding College Goal Sunday & Saturday TOO! including line by line instructions on how to complete the FAFSA at home is available online at www.collegegoalsunday.com, or you may call the Arizona Commission for Postsecondary Education (ACPE) at (602) 258-2435 ext. 117. 
  
Juniors who are planning to attend college after graduation and have strong personal character, academics, and leadership can apply for the Executive Women International Scholarship Program worth $5000.  Candidates will be judged on academic excellence, extracurricular involvement, community service, written communication skills, poise, and leadership.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Completed applications should be turned into the Guidance secretary no later than Thursday, December 16th. 
  
The guidance office is now sending out a monthly newletter via email. If you have not received your copy, we may have an incorrect email address for you or none at all. PLEASE contact Ms. Woodyard in the guidance office to update your email address so you can start receiveing our informative eNews letters. Back copies can be found under our Guidance Links.
  
Seniors in the top 20% of their class with demonstrated strong leadership skills can apply for the Principal’s Leadership Award.  Applicants will be judged on leadership skills; participation in service organizations and clubs; achievements in the arts and sciences; employment experience; and academic record.  Information is available in guidance and all applications must be completed on-line, saved & printed, and turned into the Guidance office no later than Wednesday, November 17th.  
  
Students who are interested in attending ASU should consider applying for the ASU Leadership Scholarship Program if they have a 3.25 cumulative GPA and excellent leadership abilities.  This renewable scholarship is worth $9,000 a year and includes a leadership course, mentoring by an ASU staff member, and participation in meetings and social activities.  Application instructions are available in guidance.  Applications are due to the Guidance secretary no later than Wednesday, November 17th.  
  
SOPHOMORES:
Are you a school leader or a leader in the community?  Do you have strong communication, decision making, and problem solving skills?  Do you like to think critically and creatively?  Do you speak up for your beliefs, and do you try to help others?
If you answered yes to many of these questions, you should consider applying for the 4 day HOBY Leadership Seminar (see www.hoby.org).  Applications are available in Guidance and must be turned in to the guidance secretary no later than October 28th.
  
SENIORS: 
The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards honor young people for outstanding volunteer service to their communities.  To apply, a student must have engaged in a volunteer activity that occurred at least partly during the past 12 months.   If interested, please complete the online application form at http://spirit.prudential.com. Applications must be printed out, signed, and turned in to the guidance secretary no later than Thursday, October 28th .  Do not apply directly for this scholarship as we can only submit one for our school. 
  
The PSAT test will be given on Saturday, October 16th. Location on campus to be announced. Sign up in the bookstore beginning Friday, September 10th. There are only 100 tests available. The cost of the test is $20.00. The deadline to sign up is Thursday, October 14th.
  
CollegeWeekLive.com is a unique website that allows students and parents to visit multiple colleges and universities from the comfort of their living rooms. Students must sign up at www.collegeweeklive.com They can chat with admission counselors, financial aid advisors, and students. There are also webcasts, podcasts, and chances to win scholarships!
  
As some of you may have heard on September 23, 2010, the Arizona Board of Regents voted 9 - 1 to revise the criteria and award amount of the Regents High Honors Tuition Scholarship (aka - AIMS Scholarship). The changes will go into effect with the graduating class of 2013 (current sophomores). 
 
The changes are as follows:
 
University Academic Year 2010-11 (Current high school seniors) No change to current criteria or award amount.
 
University Academic Year 2011-12 (Current high school juniors) No change to current criteria or award amount.
 
University Academic Year 2012-13 (Current high school sophomores):

Part 1 & 2:  No changes to criteria for competency courses, GPA, or class rank.
Part 3:  a. Students must exceed on AIMS Reading, Writing and Mathematics by sophomore year (1 opportunity to exceed)
 b. Add ACT or SAT scores:  ACT score of 28-36 or SAT1 score of 1300-1600.
 c. Reduce the scholarship amount to 25% of tuition. At the discretion of the university, a student may be awarded more merit aid.

The U of A Baired Scholarship is now available in the guidance office.  Applications are due to the guidance office by Friday, October 1st. This scholarship is available to seniors, who will be attending U of A in the Fall 2011. You must have a GPA of at least 3.5 and leadership activities. 3 letters of recommmendation also need to be turned in with the application. This scholarship is worth $10,000.
  
ALL SENIORS and parents of PUSD are invited to College Night at ASU's West campus in the Universtiy Center Building. Thursday, September 23rd, 6:30-8:30 pm. College reps from accross the state will be available to answer your questions. Call 602-543-4211 for more information.
  
* PLEASE remember there are no schedule changes for the 10/11 school year. Classes are FULL. The deadline to have changed your schedule was MARCH 1ST.
* If you took a summer school course, please email your counselor over the summer so they can adjust your schedule when they return in August.
* Counselors are not here in the summer. They will return August 3rd. If you have any questions, please call Ms. Woodyard at 623-487-5133.
* Final schedules will be distributed on the first day of school. Pick up your schedule in the cafeteria before 1st hour.
  
Summer Registration will be held the week of July 26th. Please watch for your summer registration packet to be in your mail box the first week of July.  Check your grade level below for your specific date and time.
Seniors: Monday, July 26th from 2:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Juniors: Tuesday, July 27th from 2:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Sophomores: Wednesday, July 28th from 8 am - 12 pm or
3 pm - 6 pm
Freshmen: Thursday, July 29th from 8 am - 12 pm or
